– Bitter Vetch
One to two feet.
Flowers of several colours, April to June.
A civilised Vetch, a pretty thing for the mixed
or herbaceous border. There are several varieties,
of which the best are O. niger, dark purple pea-shaped
flowers; O. vernus, blue and purple; O. aurantiacus,
orange-yellow; O. albus and O. albus fl. pl.,
single and double white, the latter somewhat rare.
They all like rich and rather light soil, and
are at home on a rockery.
